Turtle Beach is a renowned brand when it comes Gaming Audio and especially Gaming Headsets.
When you buy products from a popular brand…
…for sure you’re guaranteed to get a good quality product due to ‘standard maintenance’ that comes from famous brands.
In this Turtle Beach Recon 50X Review:
I will make you go through the entire headset upside-down and inside-down to give you a glimpse of what the headset is all about and at last; is it worth the price, even when you’re shelling less than $40 to have it.
So without wasting much time:
Let’s jump into the initial impression; to get you warmed up and full review later to give you view of the overall.
Turtle Beach Recon 50X Review
First Impression & Design
I don’t know about you but at first look, I liked the overall design of the Turtle Beach Recon 50X.
For a considerable lower price of under $40, you get a well-designed Gaming Headset that surely looks worth the price you’re paying.
Currently available in two colors: a combination of Black & Green and another combination of White & Green:
This Gaming Headset is a well fit for someone who is trying to get into the groove of a legit gaming headset at a very comfortable price.
What amazes me is the fact that at such a low price you get a gaming headset that has detachable mic and earcups that fold flat backward and 10-degree forward to give a comfortable fit.
Another thing that catches attention and makes the Turtle Beach Recon 50X stand out is the earcups themselves are tilted as well so as to offer a better fit and adjust according to the natural angle of our ears and head.
It’s amazing; due to huge level of competition, we get an impressive level of R&D implementation in low price products.
Build Quality & Comfort
As expected, for a Gaming Headset that costs under $40, you are bound to get plastic build audio equipment from the head to the toes.
However, this isn’t a negative point at all because being built entirely out of plastic, the headset feels quite sturdy and gives you enough confidence while using it.
Another benefit (of plastic build) is that the headset is reasonably lightweight and you won’t feel its load while using for longer duration gaming sessions.
The headset too can take a couple of drops here and there without giving up.
Coming to the headband, it has a slim leatherette padding in the center while the rest of headband feels like the one on Audio Technica ATH-AX1iS headset (though a little broader) and gives tactile feedback while adjusting the headband.
The earcups too are made up of faux leather, which feels soft and is comfortable to be worn for longer periods.
However, I do suggest you remove the headset once every hour; as your ears will get moist and sweaty, leading to increased bacteria growth.
Moreover, you don’t feel the clamping force of the headset as well; due to its lightweight plastic build and hence no headache after prolonged use.
Setup & Getting Started
Setting up the Turtle Beach Recon 50X is fairly simple.
You just need to plug the audio jack into your Game Controller’s 3.5mm port and you’re good to go; without any further installation required.
In a similar manner you can connect it to your PC and smartphone too and enjoy gaming on it as well.
With inclusion of an inline volume controller and mic On/Off button, you can easily control these basic functions and remove the detachable boom mic if required.
Finally in our Turtle Beach Recon 50X Review, we have reached the most important part and it’s Performance.
You can have great design and cool features but if the gaming headset lacks on audio quality, then it’s definitely a no-go.
Since Gaming Headset can’t be compared to a regular headset/headphone meant for music, I’m not going that root and keeping the audio performance part strictly to Gaming.
As we all know that Turtle Beach is specifically known for producing consumer friendly gaming headset at affordable price, and the Turtle Beach Recon 50X is no exception either.
For under $40, you get a fairly good quality gaming headset with plenty of bass, along with tight mids and fairly good highs.
Since modern games comes with different kind of audios like in-game sound effects, music, various short audios, enemies footsteps, gunshots, car engine sound.
The Recon 50X is able to deliver all those kind of sounds with ease, without any hiccup.
Turtle Beach also sells an aftermarket Audio Controller adapter, this adapter can be easily connected to your XBOX One Controller via USB port.
Later you can connect the headset to this adapter, which offers multiple function and mic monitoring as well.
The USP of this device is that it amplifies low volume sound like enemy footsteps from far end or weapon reloads, which the brand calls this function as Superhuman Hearing and can be activated with press of a button.
All in all, the Turtle Beach Recon 50X is a good performer and leaves no desires unturned for the price it sits at.
This Turtle Beach Recon 50X review should have enabled you to see through over and under this valuable gaming headset available just under $40.
For an inexpensive price range, you get a fairly good-looking headset that has a decent build quality and very good audio performance as well.
To be honest, in a world full of cheap gaming headset and knockoffs that aren’t even worth the price you’re paying for.
It’s good to find a reliable gaming headset from a popular brand at a very cheap price point.
Hence if you’re just starting out with Gaming Headset, Turtle Beach Recon 50X is what I would recommend.
